Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1080 - Tucano T Mk1, ZF137 \'QJ-F\', No. 1 Flying Training School, RAF Linton-on-Ouse. The Tucano Display Aircraft for 2010 are painted in the colour scheme used by Spitfires during the Battle of Britain and dedicated to the memory of ‘The Few’, regardless of their aircraft, trade or squadron. The 2010 Display pilot, Flight Lieutenant Tom Bould, is a Qualified Flying Instructor on 72(Reserve) Squadron. The two display aircraft (QJ-F and LZ-R) represent the Spitfires of two successful Battle of Britain pilots who subsequently commanded 72 Squadron. Robert ‘Bobby’ Oxspring joined the RAF in 1938 and became a fighter pilot, as his father had been during the First World War. He saw distinguished active service throughout the Battle of Britain with 66 Squadron and was appointed to command No. 72 Squadron in 1942. Brian Kingcombe joined the RAF in 1936 and qualified as a pilot in 1938. He saw combat over Dunkirk in May 1940 and in the latter stages of the Battle of Britain, during which he was shot down and seriously injured. After recovering from his wounds he returned to fighters, eventually rising to command 72 Squadron in early 1942.
