Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1083 - KF-16C Fighting Falcon, 93-083, 123rd Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Wing, Seosan AB, Republic of Korea. The 123rd Fighter Squadron was formed at Kwangju AB on 15 May 1975 by ‘ROK-US ENHANCEMENT AGREEMENT’, receiving 36 F-5A/B after the Vietnam War. In 1977, 123rd FS was reassigned as a CRT (Combat Readiness Training) Squadron and during the same year it took part in counter intelligence-collection operations in the Southern Islands of the Korean Peninsula. Through 1995, for about 20 consecutive years, the 123rd trained more than 800 combat-ready pilots. On 1 February 1997, the Squadron re-equipped with brand new KF-16C/D (block 52) models. The 123rd Fighter Squadron was re-established at Jungwon AB for a short period before moving to Seosan AB on 25 March the same year. The 123rd is well known for its Air-to-Ground Attack expertise. Since capturing its first place trophy at the 1998 ‘ROKAF Boramae Competition’, the 123rd Fighter Squadron has won the trophy for 12 consecutive years, including three President’s Awards - the only ROKAF Fighter Squadron to achieve such feat to date! Equipped with precise and surgical strike capable weapon systems such as LANTIRN and LGB/JDAMS to defend against the North Korean aggression, the Squadron maintains combat readiness posture for 24-hour a day to serves as the ROKAF’s first line of defense in the North-Western sea areas of the Korean Peninsula. The warriors of the 123rd Fighter Squadron are proud and ‘Ready to Fight, Tonight!!’
