Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No.1193 - F-16CJ Fighting Falcon, 92-3913, 13th Fighter Squadron, 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa AB, Japan. The 13th Fighter Squadron, known as the \"Panther Pack\", traces its history back to World War II, with its original designation as the 313th Bombardment Squadron. It activated on 1 February, 1942 at MacDill Airfield, Florida. There it served as an operational training unit for the A-20, B-18, B-25 and B-26 aircraft, and flew many maritime patrol mission as well. The Squadron disbanded after the war, but was reconstituted as the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron on 2 May, 1966, and activated at Korat Air Base, Thailand. The Panthers flew the F-4 and F-105 aircraft out of Korat, and later Udon Air Base, Thailand, in support of the Vietnam War. The 13th flew 13,000 combat missions from 1966 until the end of the hostilities, participating in such operations as Rolling Thunder, Linebacker I and Linebacker II. During the war, Panther aircrews shot down two MiG-17s, one MiG-19, eight MiG-21s and produced the war\'s third and final ace, Capt. Jeff Feinstein. While in Thailand the Squadron adopted a young panther named \"Eldridge\" as the squadron mascot. In 1975 the Squadron moved back to MacDill and trained aircrews in the F-4E. In 1985 the \"Panther Pack\" moved to their present home at Misawa Air Base, Japan, and now fly the multi-role F-16CJ Fighting Falcon. Along with air-to-air and interdiction roles, the 13th is now the world\'s premier \"Wild Weasel\" squadron, performing the Suppression of Enemy Air Defense mission. The \"Panther Pack\" is back!
