Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1295 - F-22A Raptor, 09-4190, 90th Fighter Squadron, 3rd Wing, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The 90th Fighter Squadron, “Pair-O-Dice,” is one of the most decorated and historic squadrons in the United States Air Force. It has been active all but two years of its illustrious history. The Aviation Section, U.S. Army Signal Corps organized the 90th Aero Squadron on 20 August 1917 at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas. The squadron entered WWI in November, 1917, and has flown in nearly every conflict to defend the freedom of the United States and its allies since that time. It was during the early days of WWI that the unit’s first wartime commander, 1Lt William G. Schauffler, designed the 90th’s unique “lucky” Pair o’ Dice emblem. The 90th left nothing to chance - only natural sevens were allowed to grace the sides of their airplanes. Since early days, the squadron has flown a wide range of aircraft: Sopwith TF-1, Salmson 2-A2, SPAD XI, Breguet BR-14, DeHavilland DH-4, A-20 Havoc, B-25 Mitchell, A-26 Invader, B-57 Canberra, F-100 Super Sabre, F-4G Phantom II, and F-15E Strike Eagle. In August 2007, after 90 years of service, the “Pair-O-Dice” began operating America’s Frontline Fighter, the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. The Dicemen now stand ready to deploy F-22 Raptors vast distances on short notice and operate in every environment on the planet from the Final Frontier of Alaska.
