Performing to millions of people every year, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team has flown almost 4,900 displays in 57 countries since 1965. The Royal Air Force marked its 100th anniversary in 2018 and the Red Arrows helped to commemorate and celebrate the milestone, while also inspiring audiences with a display of speed, agility and teamwork. Just like those personnel at other Royal Air Force units, the 120 people who make up the entire Red Arrows team are highly-skilled individuals – all motivated in the pursuit of excellence. The Red Arrows consists of 11 pilots, nine of whom form the display team, with each having previous fast-jet operational experience flying the Tornado, Typhoon or Harrier – enabling the Royal Air Force to secure the nation’s skies. Known as the Blues because of the colour of their display coveralls, the team’s support staff include dedicated engineers, drivers, suppliers, public relations experts and other personnel. Based at Royal Air Force Scampton in Lincolnshire, the Red Arrows fly the BAE Systems Hawk TMk1A and are famous for their trademark Diamond Nine formation.
