Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1261 - Sikorsky S61N G-BDOC & Sikorsky S92A G-CGMC, HM Coastguard, Sumburgh, Shetland Islands, Sumburgh Search & Rescue Flight 30th Anniversary, 1983 - 2013.
HM Coastguard unit at Sumburgh was originally formed under contract of the Department of Transport by Bristow Helicopters Limited in December 1983 at their offshore oil supply facility at Sumburgh Airport. Originally operating with the Sikorsky S61N Mk2 and later superseded by an all-weather Search and Rescue variant. The base has received many commendations and awards taking part in numerous high profile rescues such as Piper Alpha, the MV Braer oil tanker disaster and the Klondykers including the largest lift by S61 of 31 souls from the MV Lunokhods. In 2007 the Sikorsky 92 was brought into service on the unit, increasing aircraft speed, range and automated capabilities and now in its 30th year the unit has totalled more than 2500 missions and 5700 hrs of operational flying.
