Showcasing the Royal Air Force and representing the United Kingdom, the Red Arrows are renowned for world-class, precision displays. Officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows have performed more than 4,900 times in 57 countries since their first season, in 1965. The displays aim to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds, by demonstrating teamwork. Months of planning and training are needed in preparation for these activities, by dedicated individuals who are united in the constant pursuit of excellence. Coupled with the team’s extensive online and ground engagement, these displays support a range of UK interests, in areas such as defence, trade and education. This is particularly the case when the Red Arrows tour overseas, as proven ambassadors for a Global Britain. The Red Arrows consists of 11 pilots, nine of whom form the display team and with each having previous fast-jet, frontline experience flying the Tornado, Typhoon or Harrier to secure the nation’s skies. Known as the Blues because of the colour of their coveralls, the team’s Whole Force support staff numbers 110 people, including engineers, drivers, suppliers, public relations experts and other personnel. Based at Royal Air Force Scampton in Lincolnshire, the Red Arrows fly the BAE Systems Hawk TMk1A and are famous for their trademark Diamond Nine formation.
