Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1623 - ZZ336, Voyager KC2, RAF Brize Norton.

Operated by the AirTanker consortium on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, ZZ336 is one of ten Airbus A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) aircraft, known as Voyager KC2/KC3 in Royal Air Force service, flown jointly by Nos.10 and 101 Squadrons from their base at RAF Brize Norton. A requirement was identified in the 2015 Strategic Defence & Security Review for a secure, high-profile aircraft for use by UK Government Ministers and the Royal Family, primarily for undertaking overseas trade and diplomatic missions whilst promoting the UK on the global stage. The aircraft’s VIP role became known as Operation VESPINA. In June 2020, ZZ336 emerged resplendent from the paint shop at Marshall Aerospace & Defence Group’s facilities at Cambridge Airport having been transformed from its standard matt grey scheme to a gloss white livery which features a unique stylised Union Flag adorning the tail and large United Kingdom titles in gold lettering on the fuselage. The aircraft features 58 premium class seats, equivalent to airliner business class, 100 economy seats as well as conferencing facilities, differing from the standard all-economy seating cabin arrangement carried by the rest of the RAF’s Voyager fleet. When not undertaking official UK Government business, ZZ336 reverts to its air-to-air refuelling and transport role for the Royal Air Force.
