HS-12 was attached to the 1st and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wings during World War II and participated in numerous campaigns throughout the Northern Solomons, Leyte, Luzon, and the Southern Philippines. HS-12 deployed to China in 1945 to participate in the post-war occupation and redeployed to Korea in 1950 at the outbreak of hostilities. In 1956, HS-12 was re-designated as Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 12 (H&MS-12) and relocated to its current home base at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan.
