Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1414 - G-MCGY, S-92A, HM Coast Guard, Cornwall Airport Newquay. The HM Coastguard base at Cornwall Airport Newquay is one of ten UK SAR helicopter bases operated by Bristow Helicopters Limited on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. The base assumed responsibility for helicopter Search and Rescue (SAR) in the South West region in January 2016 operating the state of the art Sikorsky S-92A. The contract represents a continuation of Bristow’s British heritage of providing first-class SAR helicopter services in the UK working closely with national and local agencies such as the Coastguard, Police, Fire Service, Mountain Rescue Teams, the RNLI, the Ambulance Service and voluntary community groups, to ensure the delivery of a world-class SAR capability. The S-92A helicopter is the most advanced aircraft in Sikorsky’s civil product line, certified to the most stringent safety requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Its advanced health and usage monitoring system sets a new level of reliability and enables cutting edge fleet management services. The aircraft are certified for Night Vision Goggles (NVG) with a compatible glass cockpit. They have High Definition Forward-Looking Infrared (FLIR) and low light imaging camera technology for more effective searches and high illumination lighting to make winching easier and safer, particularly useful when operating in confined spaces or conducting cliff rescues. With a crew of four, cruise speed of 145 knots, 250 nautical miles radius of action, twin hoist and comprehensive medical suite, Newquay SAR continues the fine tradition of delivering a professional, vital service to the community in the South West.
